2009 is a great year for composer anniversaries. Here are some of them which I will be featuring here at 52composers:

• Isaac Albeniz - died 18 May 1909 (100 years)
• George Frideric Handel - died 14 April 1759 (250 years)
• Franz Josef Haydn - died 31 May 1809 (200 years)
• Felix Mendelssohn - born 3 February 1809 (200 years)
• Henry Purcell - born 10 September 1759 (350 years)

52 composers is a project that I started last year. I am an artist/printmaker and lover of classical music. I set myself a challenge of producing a portrait of a classical composer every week for a year

While researching these great composers I came across a wealth of information, images, books, music, websites. So I decided to build this site which besides showcasing my portraits would also recommend other relative resources.

The result is a useful tool for finding art, books, cd's, sheet music, giftware relating to each composer. Great gift ideas for music lovers, opera buffs, ballet fans.
